Several months before I started receiving Medicare, I researched many insurance providers to see what their medicare supplement insurance offered and covered. This additional insurance is needed to supplement Medicare insurance as that alone does not cover all health situations. Additional insurance is needed to fill this gap and help pay what is not covered.
There are many providers that offer medicare supplement insurance plans including Mutual of Omaha, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Genworth Financial and United Health Care. Premiums for medicare supplements are based on what you want to have covered and how much you want to pay "out of pocket". One of the biggest concerns is prescription coverage as many seniors need prescriptions that are not available in generic form.
