Tanning Beds + UV Rays = Cancer

International cancer experts are saying that tanning beds and ultraviolet radiation are definite causes of cancer. Previously, the beds and UV rays were given as "probable carcinogens". 20 studies concluded that the risk of skin cancer increases by 75% when people start using tanning beds before age 30.

The World Health Organization does not recommend them. According to studies, use of tanning beds caused a 20% increased risk of developing melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer.

A recent article by Maria Cheng of the Associated Press said that tanning beds and ultraviolet radiation are definite causes of cancer, alongside tobacco, the hepatitis B virus and chimney sweeping. Vincent Cogliano, a cancer researcher, hopes that culture changes so that teens, especially, don't think they need to use sunbeds to get a tan.

The American Cancer Society advises people to try bronzing or self-tanning creams instead of beds.
